Notes from the CEO
Last Friday at the 119th Annual Dinner and Business Awards gala for the Sacramento Metro Chamber, we, per tradition, installed the new executive committee and celebrated the business leaders in our region. That was just about the only thing we did per tradition. The evening was unlike any other annual dinner. Thanks to the incredible efforts of the team at the Metro Chamber, we pulled off an event that was fun and full of glamour – it was a great kickoff for 2014.
I was honored to take the helm as year’s chairman of the board and was sincerely touched and humbled by Martha Lofgren’s introduction. She is a person for whom I have the deepest respect and have enjoyed working with her at the chamber in the past and am looking forward to another year of working together to make this region great.
I believe the entire region is looking forward to the year ahead. Together we will drive economic development in our region. “Rising tides raise all ships” as they say and I think that we are closer to moving mountains with our partnerships with fellow chambers and with our partners in Next Economy. In the February issue of Comstock’s Magazine, there was a great example of public and private sectors working together to grow the region’s economy. Auburn’s Vice Mayor, Bridgette Powers said “We’ve managed to be successful not because of economics but because the people created economic value.”
Today in the Sacramento Bee, there was an editorial recognizing the shift for West Sacramento making this case, “Other cities and counties could do much worse than look to West Sacramento for inspiration.”
I believe this is preview of what is to come for many of our regional partners as we move forward.
