Welcome SMUD Energy Efficiency Loan Customers!

Welcome to Five Star Bank! We appreciate the opportunity to continue supporting your financing needs related to energy efficiency upgrades to your home or business. Now that your loan has been transferred, payments for your Energy Efficiency Loan need to be sent to Five Star Bank. All other terms and conditions, including your loan number, payment amount and due date will remain the same. Only the payee and payment address change.

Important Notice: For the first three months after your loan is transferred to Five Star Bank, payments received within 30 days of the due date will be credited to the due date and no late fees will be assessed. This policy is intended to ensure you have ample time to redirect your loan payments from SMUD to Five Star Bank.

For your convenience, Five Star Bank provides several ways to make your loan payment:

Pay Online
Pay your statement online by clicking the link below. You will be asked to create a username and password.

ACH Direct Debit 
Save time and a postage stamp. We can debit your checking or savings account directly to ensure your payment is made securely and on time each month. To enroll, please complete and return the ACH authorization form.

By Mail

If you have sent a payment to SMUD, SMUD will forward that payment to us until you direct your payments to Five Star Bank until February 28, 2022. Payments received after March 1, 2022, will be returned and your payment could be shown as past due.

FAQ's related to SMUD Energy Efficiency Loans:

  • Customers can bring payments to the nearest Five Star Bank banking office during normal operating hours 
  • Customers can mail payments to the Bank’s payment processing facility: Five Star Bank, P.O. Box 513656, Los Angeles, CA 90051-3656.
  • The Bank will mail you a form to set up automatic payments from your checking or savings account at your current bank.
  • Customers can download the ACH form from the Bank’s website
  • Customers who use a bill pay service with their current bank can set up automatic payments to Five Star Bank. Refer to the payment instructions above.
Statements are issued 15 days prior to the loan’s next payment due date. Please keep in mind that mail times may vary.
Customers will receive a “Notice of Transfer” letter from SMUD and a subsequent “Welcome Letter” from Five Star Bank. The Bank’s “Welcome Letter” is mailed approximately 7 days after SMUD mails its “Notice of Transfer.” Please keep in mind that mail times may vary.
  • The SMUD Energy Efficiency Loan agreement specifies that a late fee will not be assessed until 15 days after the payment due date.
  • To ensure customers have adequate time to redirect loan payments from SMUD to Five Star Bank, for the first 90 days after the loan is transferred, a late fee will not be assessed if the payment is received within 30 days of the payment due date. This is a temporary policy instituted by the Bank, and after 90 days all terms will revert to the original terms in the loan agreement.
  • Payment instructions are mailed separately (with the Bank’s “Welcome Letter”) and are available on this website.
No, there are no fees or penalties for paying off a loan early.
  • Yes, the Bank will provide an interest paid notice at the end of the year.
  • Customers will also receive a statement from SMUD for the interest paid (to SMUD) prior the loan’s transfer to Five Star Bank.
  • No, Five Star Bank of California is not related to, nor affiliated in any way with Five Star Bank in New York.
  • When setting up payments, please be sure to use routing number 121143037.
  • The Bank’s web address is
